Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Paul Petrulis played for Team USA in the 1990 World Junior Championship, hitting .432, slugging .649 and making the All-Tournament team at 2B. His 10 RBI tied Brooks Kieschnick for third on the team, behind Jay Powell and Shawn Green and his 11 runs tied Powell for second on the team, three behind Green.

He was taken by the New York Mets in the 8th round of the 1993 amateur draft, one pick after pitcher Sean DePaula and a few selections ahead of pitcher Steve Kline, and played in their system from 1993 to 1995.

He slashed .283/.386/.350 with a home run and 30 RBI in 69 games for the Pittsfield Mets in 1993, but slipped to .239/.328/.291 in 105 games for the Capital City Bombers in 1994 and .227/.333/.271 in 104 games for the St. Lucie Mets in 1995. He played for the independent Lubbock Crickets of the Texas-Louisiana League in 1996 and 1997, hitting .285/.349/.407 with 96 hits in 97 games the former campaign and .333/.417/.430 with 62 hits in 57 games the latter.

Overall, Petrulis slashed .268/.356/.343 with 11 home runs, 129 RBI and 205 runs scored in 278 games over five seasons. He drew 130 walks and had 166 strikeouts.

His father, John Petrulis, played professionally as well.
