Biographical Information

Paul Ebert was an All-American pitcher.

Ebert was a two-sport star at Ohio State University. He went 21-8 and set a school record with 223 strikeouts (later broken by Steve Arlin). In 1954, he was named one of two All-American pitchers. He starred for Team USA in the 1955 Pan American Games, going 2-0 and striking out 18 to tie Rafael Quezada for the lead. The USA won a Silver Medal. Ebert also starred in basketball, setting an Ohio State University record with 1,436 career points as a forward-center and making All-Big Ten Conference three times. He had offers from the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Giants but turned these down to attend medical school. He later was Chair of the Department of Surgery at both Cornell University and the University of California San Francisco.
