Biographical Information[edit]

Mississippi native Paul Busby spent five seasons in professional baseball from 1939 to 1943.

He had two short stints with the Philadelphia Phillies. The first came at the tail end of the 1941 season, debuting on September 14; the outfielder appeared in ten games and went 5 for 16 (.313) at the plate. Paul was back with the Phils in 1943, appearing in 26 games, hitting .250 (10-for-40). Overall, he hit .268. Paul was inducted into the United States Army that season, where he spent the duration of World War II. Busby also spent five seasons in the lower minors, hitting .340 for the Martinsville Manufacturers of the Class D Bi-State League in 1940 and .326 for the same club in 1941. In his five seasons, Paul hit .322 with 14 home runs in 333 games.

Paul did not return to professional baseball after the war, returning to Mississippi where he worked and lived until his death on December 5, 2003 in Meridian at 88.
