When he retired, he was succeeded by Mark Shapiro, former Geeral Manager and later team President of the Cleveland Indians.

He has received many honors over the years. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1998, and he was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. Finally, he has also received honorary degrees from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York and from the University of Western Ontario.

Beeston has also given his support to several charity and community service organizations, including arts festivals, psychiatric programs and children's hospitals.
