Patriots' Day
(Redirected from Patriots Day)
Patriots' Day, also styled as Patriot's Day or Patriots Day, is a state holiday in Massachusetts and Maine. It is observed on the third Monday in April in recognition of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War which were in Concord, Massachusetts and Lexington, Massachusetts on April 19, 1775.
From a baseball standpoint, Patriots' Day is notable because it provides the only scheduled morning start on the baseball calendar. The Boston Red Sox have played a morning game, 10 AM in 2007, since 1960. This allows the fans at Fenway Park to leave the game and join the throngs of spectators who are watching the Boston Marathon, which also takes place on this day.
