Biographical Information[edit]

Pat McManus was born in Ireland and pitched for Manhattan College in New York some time in the 1870's. By the age of 17, he was already playing for the 1877 troy team of the League Alliance, where a teammate, Charlie Comiskey, was the same age. Two years later he pitched for the 1879 Troy Trojans, a major league team, appearing in two games. His ERA of 3.00 was decent (the team ERA was 2.80) and his WHIP of 1.190 was better than the team WHIP. However, he allowed 14 unearned runs along with 7 earned runs in 21 innings.

Pat later became assistant district attorney of Rensselaer County and then a prominent attorney. He was typically called "Paddy". Source: The Haymakers, Unions and Trojans of Troy, New York (Jeffrey Michael Laing, author).
