Biographical Information[edit]
Ottis Johnson played minor league ball in 1950 and 1951. In both years, he played for the Dothan Browns. In 1950, they were part of the Alabama State League. The next year, they were a member of the Alabama-Florida League.
Johnson compiled 17 home runs. He ended his career with a .336 lifetime batting average. He hit .313/~.376/.441 in 99 games in 1950. He was hitting .394 and slugging .697 after 38 games in 1951.
In June 1951, Johnson was beaned by Jack Clifton who was pitching for the Headland Dixie Runners. Ottis was rendered unconscious and died eight days later. It was the last beaning fatality in a regular season minor league game.
