Biographical Information[edit]
Since his playing career ended, catcher Orlando Mercado has been a coach in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization. He was a player/coach for the Vancouver Canadians in 1994, then a coach with the AZL Angels (1995-1996), Midland Angels (1997) and Butte Copper Kings (1998-1999). From 2000 to 2002 he was the bullpen catcher for the Angels, and was the bullpen coach from 2003 to 2010. In 2011-2013 Mercado was the Angels' minor league catching coordinator. He moved to the New York Yankees' chain as a coach for the Trenton Thunder in 2014.
Mercado is the father of Orlando Mercado Jr.
