Biographical Information[edit]
Orie Kerlin was a backup catcher for the Pittsburgh Rebels of the Federal League in 1915. He had been at Louisiana State University immediately before coming to the Rebels. Kerlin had also played some semi-pro ball, as well as being on the university baseball team, and he had the good fortune of living in Homer, LA, the same town where Pittsburgh manager Rebel Oakes was living. Oakes liked what he saw, and Orie ended up on the Rebels team.
After baseball, Orie worked at his father's hardware store, was an undertaker, and was president of a saw mill.
