Biographical Information[edit]
Oliver Hardy of the Panamanian national team led the 1952 Amateur World Series with 12 RBI. He is presumably the same Oliver Hardy who played for the Carlsbad Potashers from 1954-1956. In '54, he hit .324/.351/.513 with 37 doubles, 14 triples and 117 runs; that was the season Joe Bauman hit 72 homers in the same loop, the high-flying Longhorn League. Hardy fielded .945 at second. He was 5th in the Longhorn League in doubles and 6th in triples. In 1955, he batted .336/.369/.489 with 115 runs, 14 triples, 17 steals and 103 RBI. He was third in three-baggers behind Carroll Gholson and Pedro Osorio. He also tied Ossie Alvarez for 10th in swipes. He fell to .297/.332/.429 in '56 to end his US career.
