Biographical Information[edit]

Nobuyuki Hikiji played for eight seasons for the Taiyo Whales.

Hikiji hit .230/.257/.276 as a rookie for the Whales in 1952. The infielder batted .240/.270/.286 with 18 steals in 23 tries in 1953 and .243/.265/.308 in 1954, when he led the Central League with 535 at-bats.

In 1955, Nobuyuki's batting line was .242/.266/.337 and he made 41 errors. He hit .222/.252/.314 with a career-high 9 home runs and 48 RBI in 1956; he again led the CL in at-bats (519).

The Taiyo infielder hit .228/.283/.295 in 1957. That year, he had a 708 consecutive game played streak end, dating back to May of his rookie season. It was 4th in Nippon Pro Baseball history at that point.

Hikiji produced at just a .194/.225/.290 rate in 1958 then hit .230/.303/.335 in 1959. Overall, he batted .229/.262/.305 in 942 games with Taiyo with only 541 runs produced.

After his playing career ended, Hikiji was a scout and coach for Taiyo. He later coached in Taiwan.
