Biographical Information[edit]

Nick Travieso was a 2012 first-rounder.

Travieso fanned 8 but walked 8 in 6 innings for the junior Team USA in 2011, allowing 2 hits and no walks in 5 relief outings. The US won the junior Pan American Gold Medal. Timed as high as 99 mph in high school, usually in the mid-90s, he was taken by the Cincinnati Reds with the 14th pick of the 2012 amateur draft. He was the second high school hurler taken, after Max Fried. He soon signed for a $2 million bonus. In his first professional outing for the AZL Reds, Travieso threw a spotless relief outing against the AZL Cubs. He finished with a 4.71 ERA in eight starts on the season.

Assigned to the Dayton Dragons for the 2013 season, Travieso struggled to a 4.63 ERA while being limited to just 17 starts. Returning to Dayton in 2014 rejuvenated him, as he posted a 3.03 ERA and a 14-5 record across 26 starts. Nick finished the season on a high note, notching a 1.18 ERA over his final eight starts while allowing multiple runs just once over his final nine outings.
