Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Nick Mitchell was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 4th round of the 2024 amateur draft out of Indiana University. He had transferred there before the season, after two years at Western Illinois University. He hit well over .300 in his three college seasons, ending up at .342 as a freshman in 2022, .354 in 2023, and .335 in 2024. During that three-year stretch, he developed doubles power, but after stealing 30 bases as a freshman, saw that drop to 8 and 7 the next two years. His 62 runs in his junior year tied him for second in the Big Ten Conference.

After signing with the Blue Jays on July 22nd, he was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League, where his slash line was .289/.350/.467 in 22 games, with 4 homers and 13 RBIs. On December 10th that year, he was included in a major league trade with the Cleveland Guardians, joining 1B Spencer Horwitz in heading to the Midwest in return for 2B Andres Gimenez and P Nick Sandlin.
