Neu-Norka
Neu-Norka is a former village in central Russia, near the Volga River approximately 100 miles south of Saratov. It was founded in 1852 by colonists from the nearby village of Norka, whose populations was made up of persons of German origin. This did not sit well with Joseph Stalin, who had most of the population deported in 1941. Con Starkel was born here, but his family had emigrated to the United States before these tragic events.
