Biographical Information[edit]

Nelson León has pitched in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.

He was signed by New York Mets scout Harold Herrera in February 2014. [1] He made his pro debut with the 2014 DSL Mets 2, with a 3.52 ERA in six games. After missing 2015, he went 0-1 with four saves and a 2.73 ERA for the 2016 DSL Mets 1, with a .91 WHIP and .158 opponent average. [2] In 2017, he was 8-3 with a 2.06 ERA for the same club, walking only 11 in 70 innings. He tied for second in the Dominican Summer League in wins, two behind Luis Rivero.

With the 2018 Kingsport Mets, he was 2-2 with a 7.01 ERA, back in the bullpen; opponents hit .349. He did a very good job for Nicaragua in the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier. He closed out a 12-4 win over Mexico, walking one in a hitless, scoreless 9th after replacing Jorge Bucardo. Against Colombia, he relieved Gustavo Martínez in the 5th and allowed one run on two hits and one walk in 2 2/3 IP, fanning two, before Wilfredo Pinner came in. His 2.45 ERA was 10th in the event, between Canadians Dustin Molleken and Scott Richmond. Nicaragua won a spot in the 2019 Pan American Games. [3]
