Biographical Information

Outfielder Faustin Gallegos spent ten seasons in the minor leagues. He played in 1920 and 1921, from 1924 through 1930 and in 1936. He spent much of his career in the Southeastern League, also spending notable time in the Florida State League and East Texas League.

Gallegos debuted with the 1920 Rockford Rox, hitting .230 and slugging .318 as a regular. With the '24 Paris North Stars, he batted .286/?/.420. Perhaps his best season was 1925, when he hit .320 with 14 home runs and 38 doubles in a season split between the Paris Bearcats (123 G) and San Antonio Bears (14 G). He tied for 7th in the East Texas League with 34 doubles and was 8th with 155 hits. In a high-offense loop, he did not make the top 10 in average.

In 1926, Nazario hit .322 and slugged .485 for Paris, with 30 doubles. He tied Bill Stellbauer for 6th in the East Texas League in doubles while again not making the top 10 in average. He managed Paris for part of the year. In 1927-1928, Gallegos played for the Jacksonville Tars. He hit .295/?/.407 with 13 triples in 1927 while registering 19 outfield assists. He tied for second in the Southeastern League in triples, one shy of leader Sumpter Clarke. In '28, he hit .271/.346/.414 with 15 steals, 9 triples and 12 home runs and again had 19 assists. He was 8th in home runs, tied for 9th in triples and led in times hit by pitch (13). He was 5th in outfield assists but also tied for 4th in outfield errors (12).

In another season in the Southeastern League, 1929, Gallegos played for three different clubs. He fell to .264/.340/.346 with 16 assists and 19 miscues. He was 8th among league flyhawks in assists but led them in errors. He hit .308/?/.470 for the 1930 Tars. His 18 triples tied for third in the Southeastern League, his 28 doubles tied Lee Dunham for 6th and his 6 homers tied for 6th. Only Tom Pyle had more extra-base hits in the league that year.

In his final year, 1936, Gallegos hit .308 between four clubs - the Cordele Reds, Augusta Tigers, DeLand Reds and Palatka Azaleas. He also managed Palatka for part of the year.

In 1921, according to the 1922 Spalding guide, he played for the New Mexico semi-pro team the Albuquerque Grays in the earlier part of 1921, hitting 17 home runs in 19 games.

He was a man of multiple names: He went by Faustin Gallegos, Nazario Gallegos and his nickname, "Teen" Gallegos.

His date of birth has variously been listed as August 18 and September 25.[1][2]
