Biographical Information[edit]
Nate Spears was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 5th round of the 2003 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Nick Presto and made his pro debut that summer. Spears played pro ball from 2003-2014, spending most of those years in the minor leagues. He made his major league debut with the 2011 Boston Red Sox and returned to the Sox briefly in 2012. Between the two seasons, he appeared in 7 games and went hitless in 8 at-bats.
Spears became an assistant coach with the Greenville Drive in 2016. He moved to hitting coach of the Lowell Spinners in 2017-2019. Spears was slated for a return to Lowell before the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the 2020 season. Spears returned to Greenville as the team's hitting coach in 2021-2022. Spears moved to the Minnesota Twins' organization as hitting coach of the St. Paul Saints in 2023. He moved again, to the Chicago Cubs' chain as hitting coach of the South Bend Cubs in 2024.
