Naples, Italy

From BR Bullpen

Naples, called Napoli in Italian, is a major port city located on the Tyrrhenian Sea coast of southern Italy, about 120 miles southeast of Rome. It sits in the shadow of an active volcano, Mount Vesuvius. In 1889, a tour of baseball players led by John Ward staged its first game in Europe here.

Andrew Beinbrink and Chase Burns were born here. In both cases, their birthplace was the result of the presence of an important NATO naval base in the city, to which a number of U.S. servicemen and other personnel are posted.
