Biographical Information[edit]

Naoyuki Tateishi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Tateishi represented Japan in the 1998 Asian Games. The Nippon Ham Fighters drafted him in the third round of the 1998 NPB draft. Tateishi recorded a 5.40 ERA in 21 appearances in his rookie. He joined the rotation and had a 9-4 record with a 4.50 ERA in 2000, but his ERA rose to 6.83 in 2002. He was moved from the rotation, and only played 8 games in 2002. The Chiba native bounced back and recorded a 4.81 ERA in 40 relief outings in 2003. Whenthe Fighters moved to Hokkaido in 2004, Tateishi was the first pitcher to got a win on March 31. He also set the NPB record to had 3 balks in a inning on May 10. Tateshi ended up 4-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 2004 season. He improved and had a 2.23 ERA in 28 appearances in 2005, then came back to the rotation and recorded a 2.72 ERA in 11 starts in 2006. 37-year-old Tateishi spent the whole 2007 season in the ni-gun, then announced his retirement before the 2008 season.

Overall, Tateishi was 25-19 and a 4.15 ERA and pitched 481 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
