Biographical Information

Myung-chul Shin has been an infielder in the Korea Baseball Organization.

While in college, Shin played for the South Korean national team. He helped them win the Gold Medal at the 1998 Asian Games. In the 1998 Baseball World Cup, he batted .270/.325/.486 with 8 runs in 10 games and fielded .961 as Korea's starter at second. In the Gold Medal game loss to Cuba, his solo shot off Jose Contreras gave the Koreans their lone score. Shin was with Korea for the 1999 Asian Championship (Korea won Gold and a spot in the 2000 Olympics) and 1999 Intercontinental Cup (in which he was just 3 for 20 with 3 walks and a double, but made no errors as Korea's starting second sacker).

Shin turned pro in 2001 with the Lotte Giants, going only 5 for 33 with a double and a walk. He hit .205/.227/.315 in 2002, .247/.293/.376 in 2003, .264/.322/.336 in 2004 and .256/.311/.363 with 21 steals in 30 tries in 2005, tying for 8th in the KBO in swipes that season. He fell to .175/.211/.223 in 73 games in 2006. Lotte then dealt him to the Samsung Lions for Young-sik Kang.

In 2007, Shin rebounded to .252/.346/.301 (with 19 steals in 28 tries), but struggled in 2008 at .184/.230/.244. Samsung stuck with him and he put up a .291/.362/.482 line in 2009 with 20 homers, 71 runs and 21 steals (in 27 tries). Myung-chul hit .280/.369/.408 with 60 walks and 20 swipes (in 29 attempts) in 2010.
