The Nippon Ham Fighters drafted him in the second round of the 1984 NPB draft.[1] He only pitched 9 games in his rookie year, and joined the Fighters' bullpen soon in 1986. He was the main LOOGY for the Fighters in his 10-year career with the Fighters, and his pitching was very stable. His ERA was 3.82 in 26 relief outings in the 1986 season, and improved to 2.60 in 1987. He pitched 20, 26, 28 and 22 games in the next four years, and his ERA was 3.33, 4.28, 3.78 and 3.73. He didn't pitch well due to injury in 1992, as his ERA rose to 6.86. He only played 12 games combined in the next two years. The Hyogo native came back and recorded a 3.21 ERA in 28 innings in 1995, then the Fighters traded him to the Daiei Hawks for cash after the 1995 season. Nishimura pitched 29 games with a 2.93 ERA in 1996, but he only pitched 9 games in 1997. He announced his retirement after the 1997 season.[2]

Overall, Nishimura recorded a 4.01 career ERA, pitched 264 games and 356 2/3 innings in 13 seasons in NPB.
