Morris Barret
Morris Barret born as Morris Berkowitz
- High School James Monroe High School (Bronx)
Biographical Information[edit]
Morris Barret played one season in the minors. When in high school, Hank Greenberg (who had attended the same school) advised him on hitting but also told him to change his name from Morris Berkowitz to avoid the anti-Semitism that Greenberg had put up with in pro ball. He did first play as Morris Berkowitz, hitting .290/.400/.368 in 19 games for the Stroudsburg Poconos (but fielding .821 in the outfield). He changed his name to Sandy Barrett when he was promoted, though, to A ball. Any stats for him there are not available at BR register as of this writing (9/11/2024). He then left baseball to go on to college.
