Monroe Pirates

Two years after the first professional club in Monroe, NC, the last played in 1971. The Monroe Pirates were 44-77, finishing last in the Western Carolinas League. The club had no All-Stars and was outscored 710-535, allowing the most runs in the league. Several players went on to notable major-league careers, including outfielders Dave Parker (.358/~.403/.571, 18 SB in 19 tries, 86 runs produced in 71 games), Ed Ott (.292/~.365/.444, a league-leading 16 outfield assists) and Tony Armas Sr. (.227/~.253/.295) as well as SS Mario Mendoza (.234/~.266/.327).
