Biographical Information[edit]

Mitsuru Mochizuki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Mochizuki was selected by the Hanshin Tigers in the third round of the 1971 NPB draft, and he was selected into the 1972 NPB All-Star Game as a rookie; he was 0-for-2. Mochizuki ended up hitting .207/.262/.349 in his rookie year, then he had a .214/.284/.327 batting line in 1973. He hit .231/.283/.398 in 1974, then his batting line fell to .214/.274/.344 in 1975. The Tigers traded him with Yutaka Enatsu to the Nankai Hawks for Takenori Emoto, Ikuo Shimano, Tsutomu Hasegawa and Yutaka Igeuchi after the 1975 season. Mochizuki slumped to .167/.241/.319 in 1976, then he announced his retirement after having a 2-for-22 record in 1977. He coached the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks from 1990 to 1992.

Overall, Mochizuki hit .211/.272/.348 with 216 hits and 30 homers in 6 seasons in the NPB.
