Biographical Information[edit]
Mitsuhiro Saito pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Saito represented Japan in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, going 1-1 with a 0.84 ERA. He took a tough loss against Cuba; Japan nearly ended Cuba's 11-year run without a loss as it went to extra innings before Saito allowed the losing run. He went the distance to beat Maurizio De Sanctis and Italy. Japan won Bronze. The Yakult Swallows drafted him in the second round of the 1993 NPB draft. Saito spent nearly his entire career in the NPB Farm leagues, only having 12 appearances with the big club. Although he led the Eastern League in wins with 11 in 1996, he still couldn't get many chances with the big club. Saito announced his retirement after the 2000 season.
Overall, Saito was 0-0 and a 8.57 ERA and pitched 21 innings in 3 seasons in NPB.
