Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Mitch Bratt was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 5th round of the 2021 amateur draft, out of a high school in Georgia. However, he was born in Canada and was named a member of the Canadian national team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

He was 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA for Canada in the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup, beating South Africa. In his first professional season in 2021, he had no decisions and gave up a pair of unearned runs in 6 innings spread over 4 appearances for the ACL Rangers. Prior to being drafted, he had played for the West Virginia Black Bears in the newly created MLB Draft League, making him one of the first graduates of that circuit to turn pro. In 2022, he moved up to the Down East Wood Ducks of the Carolina League, going 5-5, 2.45 in 19 games (18 starts). In 80 2/3 innings, he struck out 99 batters and walked 28. He was named a Texas Rangers organizational All-Star after the season.

Prior to being selected for the senior men's team for the WBC, he had been with the Canadian junior national team in 2020 although he was unable to take part in any events as the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the international sports scene. He was the youngest Team Canada member at the 2023 WBC. He made 16 starts for the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League in 2023, going 2-3, 3.54 and striking out 73 batters in 61 innings. He missed over a third of the season due to an injury and then played in the Arizona Fall League after the season. He began 2024 back at Hickory
