Biographical Information[edit]

Minoru Nakamura was picked by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the third round of the 1981 NPB draft. He spent seven years in their system, but only spent five games in Nippon Pro Baseball, all in 1984. The second baseman went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Nakamura retired as a player after 1987 and immediately became an umpire in the Pacific League. When he was only 33 years old, he was picked to work the 1997 Japan Series. He then worked every Japan Series from 1999 through 2008. The Japan Professional Baseball Players Association voted him as the best umpire in Japan from 2004-2006. Nakamura was selected to work the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
