Biographical Information[edit]
Miles McAfee was a minor-league player and college coach. He was the first African-American head baseball coach in NCAA Division I and is St. Mary's College of California's winningest coach.
McAfee lettered all four years in football and baseball at the Tuskegee Institute. After college, he went to play in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for one season (playing two games for the Salem Rebels). He then became a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In 1973, he was named the St. Mary's College of California's head baseball coach. He remained in that position until after the 1980 season. After being fired from St. Mary's, he became a sports agent representing clients such as Rickey Henderson.
