Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Trapasso played 3 seasons in the minors then became a college coach.

Trapasso was 6-2 with a 2.45 ERA as a junior at Oklahoma State then went 6-1 with a 1.64 ERA as a senior. He was drafted four times - by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 3rd round of the 1983 amateur draft's secondary draft, by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 7th round of the January 1983 draft, by the Minnesota Twins in the 2nd round of the 1984 amateur secondary draft and by the Atlanta Braves in the 16th round of the 1985 amateur draft.

Mike was 1-3 with a 4.78 ERA for the 1985 Pulaski Braves, then allowed 5 runs in 10 2/3 IP for the '86 GCL Braves. In 1987, he was 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA for the Savannah Cardinals, walking 38 in 44 innings.

He was an assistant coach at the University of Missouri from 1989-1991, then the University of South Florida from 1992-1994. From 1995-2001, he was assistant coach at Georgia Tech, where he was a top recruiter. He became head coach at the University of Hawai'i in 2001. After a 45-17 record in 2006, he was named National Coach of the Year by the National Baseball Foundation and was the Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

Trapasso returned to the east coast as pitching coach at United States Naval Academy in 2022. After one year he moved to University of Texas at Arlington in 2023, then was promoted to head coach in 2025 when Clay Van Hook left for the University of Houston.
