Biographical Information

Mike Smith is one of three pitchers born Michael Anthony Smith who have played in the majors since the early 1980s. He and namesake Mike Smith were teammates in the Cincinnati Reds organization in the 1980s, and both went to spring training with the Baltimore Orioles in 1989. To distinguish the two, he was known as "Mike Smith from Mississippi" or "Mississippi Mike Smith" while the other was "Mike Smith from Texas".
