Biographical Information[edit]

In 1987, Mike Ramsey became the first non-roster invitee in 22 years to make the Los Angeles Dodgers' opening day starting lineup. It was his only year in the majors (actually, he was with the team early in the season, was sent to the minors, and then returned late in the season). He also played ten seasons in the minors. With the Dodgers, he was the same age as teammate Fernando Valenzuela.

In 2004, an ESPN article picked the "most obscure but memorable Dodger" [1]. There was a long list of nominees, and Ramsey won.

He is not to be confused with another player of the same name, Mike Ramsey, who had also played for the Dodgers, two years earlier, in 1985.
