Biographical Information[edit]

Mike McGuire played in the independent leagues then was a college coach.

He hit .266/?/.379 as a backup infielder for the University of South Carolina in 1992; Baseball America ranked them #18 nationally. [1] In 1993, he batted .268/?/.392 as a corner infielder for the school. [2] He signed with the independent Zanesville Greys and hit .316/.416/.430 as they won the first Frontier League title. [3] Back with Zanesville for 1994, he produced at a .245/.342/.365 as Zanesville's primary backstop.

McGuire was pitching coach at Morehead State University from 1995-1996, then was assistant at Winthrop University from 1997-2002. He was head coach Lander University from 2003-2005, setting a school record for wins (33) in 2004. In 2006-2011, he was back to Wintrop as assistant. He was head coach of Louisburg College in 2012, setting a school record with 52 wins. From 2013-2019, he was head coach of Morehead State and set a school record with 38 wins in 2015, when he was Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year. [4]

For 2020, he became head coach of the University of South Carolina Upstate. After five seasons, he moved to Winthrop University in 2025.
