Biographical Information[edit]
Mike McCormack spent his freshman year at the University of Rochester before transferring to Worcester State University where he was a three-year letter winner in the outfield. He was a team captain of the 2008 MASCAC Championship squad and NCAA New England Regional team and was named the University’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year during that same season. He graduated in 2008 with a degree in criminal justice.
Following graduation, McCormack quickly joined the college coaching ranks. He took Horace Greeley's advice to "Go west young man" and moved to St. Mary's College of California as an assistant coach. He remained with the Gaels into the fall of 2012. At that point McCormack returned to the east coast as an assistant coach at Brown University. In 2014 he took on the additional responsibility of recruiting coordinator for the Bears. McCormack stayed in this dual role into 2021.
McCormack's coaching status in 2021 is a bit murky. Brown University cancelled its 2021 baseball season due to COVID-19. Some sources indicate that McCormack joined the San Francisco Giants organization as a hitting coach for the ACL Giants Orange during the summer. If so, this may have been a temporary gig during a down time at Brown because another source suggests that McCormack didn't leave Brown until fall 2021. In any case, the move to the Giants organization proved to be lasting and McCormack was the hitting coach for the ACL Giants Black in 2022. The Giants promoted McCormack to minor league hitting coordinator in 2023, a role he continued in 2024.
