Mike Mayne was a long-time coach. His son Brent Mayne (a former player of his in college) played in the majors.

Mayne played both baseball and football in college. He coached at Eisenhower High School then guided Orange Coast College from 1978-1992, going 400-188-6. He led his team to seven conference titles and the 1980 CCCAA Baseball Championship title (their first CCCAA title in 20 years). He was named National Community College Coach of the year in 1980 and was inducted into the California Community College Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993. He scouted for the Seattle Mariners in 1993-1994 and worked as a roving instructor for them and was a spring training catching instructor with the 1996 Athletics. In 2008, he was assistant coach at Fresno State University.
