Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Mike Ibarguen was the Detroit Tigers' second round pick in the 1970 amateur draft, taken a few picks after pitcher Butch Metzger and one pick ahead of hurler Adrian Devine. He didn't sign. He did ink a contract after being taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in first round of the the secondary phase of the January version of the 1971 amateur draft, one pick after catcher Ron Hodges and a few slots ahead of future All-Star outfielder Johnny Grubb.

Ibarguen began his professional career with 10 wins in 1971 and followed that with a 3.31 ERA in 16 games (9 starts) in 1972. He posted a 2.55 mark with 136 strikeouts in 155 innings in 1973 and a 2.41 ERA in 19 starts in 1974. Having spent his whole career to that point in Single-A, Ibarguen moved to the Tigers system for 1974 and advanced to Double-A. He was 8-3 with a 3.06 ERA his first year there and, in 29 innings in 1976, he had a 3.10 ERA to wrap up his career.

Overall, Ibarguen was 36-40 with a 3.17 ERA in 113 games (90 starts). In 628 innings, he allowed 555 hits and 347 walks, while striking out 442 batters. After baseball, he was an engineer.
