Biographical Information[edit]
The brother of Jerry Dorgan, Mike Dorgan played a decade in the majors. He was added to the "black list" at a 1881 National League meeting barring him from playing for or against any NL team but was reinstated in 1883. Afterwards, he joined the New York Giants, with whom he hit .326 in 1885. His career was eventually ended by a knee injury.
Dorgan never wore a glove or catcher's mask, instead choosing to wear a small rubber glove and a piece of rubber to protect his mouth.
Following his baseball days, he ran a café and was a bartender. He died at age 55 after developing blood poisoning, a result of having been a heavy drinker in his younger days.
