Biographical Information[edit]

As a senior at the University of Minnesota in 1997, pitcher Mike Diebolt was 7-4 with a 3.99 ERA and 110 strikeouts, which broke the school's single record of 109, set by Dave Winfield in 1973. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in seventh round of that summer's amateur draft and made his pro debut with the Jamestown Jammers. That year, he was 3-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 15 games. After the season, he was killed in a car accident after suffering a seizure while he was driving.
