Biographical Information

Pitcher Mike Degerick played in two major league games.

Signed by the Chicago White Sox in 1961 by scout Dutch Deutsch, Degerick made his pro debut that year with the Harlan Smokies of the Appalachian League. Facing the Morristown Cubs on August 25th, he threw a 7-inning perfect game, and overall, he went 9-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 13 games for the club. This performance earned him a September call-up to the majors. He made his big league debut against the Minnesota Twins on September 4th, giving up 1 earned run in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Degerick spent most of the next year with the Savannah/Lynchburg White Sox of the South Atlantic League and went 12-8 with a 2.89 ERA. He was again up with Chicago in September and got into one game, throwing a scoreless inning against the Twins on September 13th. He faced Lenny Green in both of his major league appearances, giving up a sacrifice fly in 1961 and gatting him on a ground out in 1962.

After not playing in 1963, Degerick appeared in just 3 games in the minors in 1964, his final pro season.
