Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Cvengros is the only major league player whose last name starts with the letters "Cv". His first four seasons in the majors as a pitcher were losing seasons, while his last two were winning seasons.
As a rookie, he pitched in one game for the New York Giants in 1922, a team that won the 1922 World Series, although he did not appear in the Series. Later, he pitched in the 1927 World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In Game 3 of the Series, he gave up a three-run home run to Babe Ruth in the 7th inning. In his last major league season, he pitched for the pennant-winning Chicago Cubs in 1929, but did not appear in the 1929 World Series with them.
Cvengros was the manager of the 2nd place (76-61) Abbeville A's in the Evangeline League in 1938.
