Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Bycofski was a promising left-handed pitcher who bounced around the Cincinnati Reds organization for 6 years. He debuted in 1949 just out of high school with the Muncie Reds of the Ohio State League, going 4-3 with a 3.57 ERA. In 1950, he went 4-7, 4.92 for the Lockport Reds. His greatest claim to fame came in 1951 when he pitched a no-hitter for the Welch Miners of the Appalachian League. Mike sustained a back injury on his next start and never fully recovered. In 1952 he joined the Ogden Reds of the Pioneer League, pitching under 45 innings. In '53, he was with the Richmond Colts and lost his only decision. The next year, he won his only decision with the Colonial Heights-Petersburg Colts before retiring from baseball in 1955. Mike is a retired Ironworker and currently resides in Jacksonville, Ohio surrounded by his 7 children and 12 grandchildren. His loving wife Emma Jean passed away in 1998.
