Biographical Information[edit]
The father of Kris Bryant, Mike Bryant played two seasons in the minors.
Bryant set UMass-Lowell single-season and career records for home runs. The Boston Red Sox took him in the 9th round of the 1980 amateur draft, one round after Al Nipper. Mike hit .194/.273/.258 as a regular outfielder for the Elmira Pioneers, fielding .917. As a part-timer for the 1981 Winter Haven Red Sox, he hit and fielded better - .210/.289/.277 at the plate and .978 in the outfield. He had batted .204/.284/.270 with 4 home runs, 38 runs and 25 RBI in 121 games as a pro, fielding .953 and having 9 outfield assists. His son Kris would more than double that home run total in his first 36 games as a pro. Mike coached youth baseball after his playing career ended; he was hitting coach for Bonanza High School at one point.
