Biographical information[edit]

Catcher Mike Berger was drafted in the 4th round of the 1980 amateur draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played 13 years in the minors with the Pirates, Montreal Expos and Texas Rangers, also spending a lot of time playing the outfield.

Berger was a player/coach of the Oklahoma City 89ers in 1992 and a coach for the team in 1993-1994. He managed the Charleston RiverDogs in 1995, then a scout for the Expos, Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies (2003-2005), and Toronto Blue Jays (2006).

In 2011, Berger was the director of pro scouting for the Arizona Diamondbacks. he was later named assistant General Manager of the Miami Marlins and took over on an interim basis for GM Dan Jennings when Jenning stepped aside in order to take over as manager of the Marlins on May 18, 2015. He filled the role until the end of the season, when Jennings was first dismissed as manager, and later as GM, without ever having reintegrated his former duties. Michael Hill, President of baseball operations was then given the title of GM.
