Biographical Information

Mike Bard is the older brother of catcher Josh Bard. Mike played college ball at Howard College and the University of Kansas. He played one season of minor league ball for the Bend Bucks in 1991, hitting .268/.353/.348 with 30 runs in 57 games.

Bard was a long-time college coach before striking out on his own, mostly as an assistant coach. He coached the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 1992-1995, the Howard Junior College Hawks for the 1995-1996 season, University of Kansas Jayhawks from 1997-2001, and the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks in 2002. After these years as an assistant coach, Bard took the reins as head coach of the Dallas Baptist University Patriots in 2003-2004. He led the Patriots' successful transition from a NCAA division two to division one school in 2004. Bard also led the Patriots to back-to-back championships in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) tournament and was named NCCAA Coach of the Year in both 2003 and 2004. After the 2004 season, Bard left college coaching.

Bard had grown up in Colorado and returned there after the 2004 season. For many years he offered private lessons and became the president and owner of Bardo's Diamond Sports in Parker, Colorado. He worked with children, teens, college players, and MLB players through the years. He briefly joined the affiliated ball ranks in 2007 when he served as a Colorado Rockies hitting coach assistant.

The Atlanta Braves hired Bard in 2020 to be the Rome Braves' hitting coach before the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19. He was hitting coach of the Augusta GreenJackets in 2021 and Mississippi Braves in 2022.
