Biographical Information[edit]

Mickey McGuire was in the majors with the Baltimore Orioles in 1962 and 1967. He was in the Orioles organization from 1960 to 1969, with part of one year (1968) spent in the California Angels organization. Then, he played three seasons for the Tucson Toros in the Chicago White Sox organization, and ended up with two seasons in Japan. In perhaps his best season, he hit .349 for the Toros in 1971.

Mickey was born in Dayton, OH, eight years before Mike Schmidt was born there. Mickey attended high school in Dayton, and began in the Orioles organization at age 19. He was up in the majors at age 21 for 6 games. He was not the youngest player on the 1962 Orioles, as Andy Etchebarren and Dave McNally were both 19. Mickey played exclusively shortstop when he was up in the bigs in 1962, and exclusively second base when he was up in 1967.
