Biographical Information[edit]
Mickey Jiang grew up in the Republic of China (Taiwan) and played college ball at Tunghai University while earning a degree in international trade. He later attended Northwestern Polytechnic University where he earned a MBA degree. As of this writing (2021), he is working on a master's degree in performance psychology.
The Boston Red Sox hired Jiang in 2007 as an interpreter for Taiwanese players in their minor league system and also used him as a fourth coach. He has remained in this dual role ever since and moved up and down their system based upon their need for an interpreter. In addition to the coaching roles listed below, Jiang has spent some time at the major league level as an interpreter. Through the course of his career, he has served as the interpreter for Che-Hsuan Lin, Chih-Hsien Chiang, and Tzu-Wei Lin.
- 2007-2008 Coach Greenville Drive
- 2009 First base coach Salem Red Sox
- 2010-2011 First base coach Portland Sea Dogs
- 2012 First base coach Pawtucket Red Sox
- 2013 Coach Lowell Spinners
- 2014 Coach Greenville Drive
- 2015 Coach Salem Red Sox
- 2016-2017 Coach Portland Sea Dogs
- 2018-2019 Coach GCL Red Sox
- 2021 Coach FCL Red Sox
- 2022 Coach Greenville Drive
- 2023-2024 Coach Portland Sea Dogs
Jiang was scheduled to return to the Gulf Coast League in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic caused the minor league season to be cancelled.
In 2022, there is some discrepancy among sources regarding where Jiang coached. He was initially assigned to coach the Salem Red Sox, but his LinkedIn page indicates he actually coached Greenville. There is also a baseball card showing him in a Drive uniform, so the preponderance of the evidence supports Greenville.
