Biographical Information

Mickey Finn was a scrappy native of Brooklyn, NY who played four seasons in the major leagues and died during the 1933 season after undergoing an operation to deal with stomach pains caused by a duodenal ulcer. He was an outstanding ball player in high school, playing for St. Ignatius Loyola High School in New York, NY.

Finn came to the majors from the Pacific Coast League. While in the minors, he had punched veteran Duster Mails.

With the Brooklyn Robins as a rookie in 1930, he hit .278 in a year the league hit .303. The next year, although he hit but .274 in 118 games, he received several points in the MVP voting, good for 19th place. The following year, he appeared in 65 games, hitting .238.

He was then traded to the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played 51 games with a .237 average before his health problems. He died at age 29.

He played mostly at second base, but appeared in 50 games at third base.
