Michael Bender has been a college coach.

Bender played for the 2004 Saarlouis Hornets in the German Bundesliga, going 8 for 43 with a double, homer and two walks as a part-time catcher. He fielded .965 and threw out 4 of 15 attempted base-stealers. In 2010, he became the head coach of Montreat College. Bender caused a stir in 2011 when he offered a baseball scholarship to Marti Sementelli, a high school girl from California. He stayed at Montreat through 2016.
