In 2003 Phoenix Municipal Stadium underwent renovation work forcing the Arizona Fall League's Phoenix Desert Dogs to play their home games at Hohokam Park in Mesa, AZ. The Mesa Desert Dogs, managed by Tony Beasley, went 18-13 and lost the AFL championship final. The team returned to Phoenix the following season.
