Melrose Park
Melrose Park was a ballpark located in Providence, RI which served as the home of the Providence Grays/Providence Clamdiggers of the International League and Eastern League from 1904 to 1919. Not much information is available about the ballpark, but it was evidently fairly primitive, as its inadequacy was a reason for the team moving out after the 1919 season. When the Newark Bears relocated to Providence in 1925, they used Melrose Park as a temporary home before moving into Kinsley Park during the season.
On July 31, 1914, Boston Red Sox owner Joe Lannin bought the Grays and Melrose Park from the Detroit Tigers for $75,000, while Detroit acquired the Buffalo Bisons, another International League team.
The land where the park once stood, on Longfellow Street and Roger Williams Avenue, is now occupied by housing and a DMV road test area.
