Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Max Ross played in the minor leagues, mostly in the Boston Red Sox system, from 1948 to 1952. He had two standout season, 1950 and 1951, both with the Marion Red Sox. In the former year, he hit .317 with 12 home runs and 130 hits in 122 games; in the latter campaign, he hit .374 with 20 home runs and 125 hits in 94 games. He was second in the 1951 Ohio-Indiana League in average, 7 points behind Andy Gilbert and he led the league in dingers. Overall, he batted .317 with 398 hits in 401 games over five seasons. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955.
He later was a science teacher at Marion Catholic, then was sheriff of Marion County from 1968-1972. Following that, he was an investigator for the Ohio Attorney General.
